Gay honeymoons in the Galapagos Islands

You will have the most wonderful, romantic time of your lives, cruising the enchanted Galapagos Islands on a luxury yacht.

The islands are 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador and are famous for the unique flora and fauna that inspired Charles Darwin's theory of evolution.

Laura and I spent a week on the aptly-named Evolution ship visiting the Galapagos Islands. Every day you are amazed at how many animals and birds you see. The animals have no fear of humans and it is a photographer's dream as you watch sealions frolic, blue-footed boobies dance, giant tortoises mate and penguins preen right in front of you.

It is a magical world.

The luxury yacht has large double bedrooms with private bathrooms. There is a jacuzzi and sun loungers on the spacious decks as well as a bar, lounge and comfortable armchairs.

The food is exquisite with fresh fish and meat daily, an abundance of salads and fresh vegetables. There is also a pastry chef onboard who creates wonderful cakes.

Every day you tour a different island with the extremely knowledgeable guides who speak very good English. Most days you also have the option to go snorkelling and see the spectacular marine life. We swam with sealions, penguins, a school of ray fish, turtles and many brightly coloured fish. On your return to the yacht, after an excursion, there is always fresh fruit juice and snacks.

Buffet lunches are followed by a siesta and then another excursion in the afternoon. Some days you can also go kayaking, swimming on golden beaches or just enjoying the library of books, games and videos in the lounge. In the evenings, the guides give a brief talk about the flora and fauna before a delicious supper.

The atmosphere on the yacht is relaxed and informal. The staff are gay-friendly. The service is first class. Honeymooners receive a complimentary bottle of Champagne in their room.

Quasar, the company that owns Evolution, also has other luxury yachts, the Grace and Alta. It can also organise land-based tours in Ecuador and Peru.
